“I’ve been readin'”

All of these are “classics”. Where’re the African’s at?//

I’m re-reading “Americanah.”

I grew up in the south. But

I’m the daughter of British/Ghanaian/Jamaican parents. Also known as immigrants.
I’ve lived in America all my life. My siblings were born here.

Some of my ancestors were not taken from their home,
My other ancestors were taken to Jamaica.

I feel quite the disconnect with those who are from here
Can trace their families back to American plantations
Have physical and cultural roots deeper than their own generation.

I’m just not quite “African-American”
